A Closer Look: Bosco "Boss" Kelly

Oct 31, 2013   Stephen

You might remember the last blog post's introduction of our new feature Pet of the Month. You might also remember that I threatened to spotlight our ridiculous dachshund Bosco "Boss" Kelly if the unthinkable happened and nobody submitted pets of their own. Well.

Behold November's Pet of the Month: Bosco "Boss" Kelly. Look at him. What poise and grace he doth posess.

Truth be told, we didn't get any submissions beyond the couch potato pictured above, but that's okay. This blog is just starting off and, for now, I think Pet of the Month can go on hold. But that doesn't mean Bosco's good looks have gone to waste. In fact, he's inspired our next feature: A Closer Look.

As pet sitters, we know your animals extremely well (it's our job, after all!) and that gives us the greatest, humblest pleasure. I'd like to give you a glimpse into our lives for a change by peering closer at the people, pets, and processes that keep the Happier at Home heart pumping-- and why not begin with our youngest dog Bosco? He already has real estate in this blog post, anyway.

Hailing from the same breeder as gray-whiskered Ralphie, Bosco showed up at our house in a plastic crate and low spirits. The long car ride from Alabama made him a little nervous, and the strangers who reached out long, very un-dachsund-like arms to greet him made him a lot nervous. It took hours-- even days-- for the cringing puppy to trust his new family, but once that happened, there was no going back. Bosco became devoted, and his absurd, delightful personality began to unfold.

A canine of coffee-colored elastic has been faliling and falling off of every piece of furniture this house has to offer for years. Boss has no gravitational inhibitions to speak of, and combined with his pure love for every single family member, you really can't keep his goofiness at bay for long. His insecurities bubble to the surface when an "outsider" shows up, but Bosco's overaggerated lip curl and knitted eyebrows of simmering worry contribute to the daily laughter nonetheless.

That dog has a gift for nosing his way into places he wasn't invited, so it's to be expected that he hijack a blog post or two. I'm going to cut him off now and wish you well in November; we'll be dog walking up and down your street, most likely, so say hello if you spot one of us. Our new Happier at Home jackets ought to be finished by then, so we'll be easier to spot, too! Until then, farewell and enjoy the changing seasons!
